Good
fashion has a clear sparkle; it silences dissent. Good fashion doesn’t need to
grab attention; it inevidently gets all of it. And if that fashion is designed
by a designer like Anamika Khanna,
it rarely ceases any applause. Her initiation into
fashion was more than 15 years back only because Theffolio store in Bangalore
and Ogaan in Delhi bought what she created for the world of fashion.
She is a designer based in Kolkata, India. However hard to believe, the designer does not have any formal training in fashion designing and she is the first designer from India to launch an international label, and along with Manish Arora, the first to show at Paris Fashion Week.
She along with designer Manish Arora were invited to showcase the brand at the Paris Fashion Week in 2007, becoming the first fashion designers from India to do so. She is also the Associate Design member of Fashion Design Council of India.
She begins and ends her designs with the
approach and use of traditional Indian and modern methods, a combination hardly
used by many fashion designers.Her
designs focus on including texturing with various embroideries in the clothing.Cliched exclamations fill the air when
hershow ends. The applauses garnered by the audience are usually hearty, and a
lot of them are from fashion industry stalwarts.
Like
said before, good fashion always just gets attention without trying. She
believes in similar logic which has led her to
not hire a PR Firm in the last 15 years of her career as a designer. Without
a PR company to dress up her collection, she usesa word like “freedom” to explain
the spirit and style of her collections.
When you dive more into the designer profile
